Michael Angus Architecture is located in Melbourne’s Central Business District.
The principal focus and interest of the firm is designing contemporary urban architecture. We are less concerned about notions of ‘style’, but rather how our innovative design approaches can make a positive contribution to both the end user of the building and the urban environment beyond.
Most of our commissions are undertaken in Melbourne’s vibrant inner suburbs, and range from small residential refurbishments, warehouse conversions and single dwellings, to multiple-dwelling and medium rise projects. Our typical single and multi-unit residential projects are designed to suit the needs of a diverse and flexible arrangement of household types. Other projects with which we have considerable experience include student housing, new and refurbished fire stations, elderly persons units , and office fitouts.
Designing projects in such an environment requires specific responses to the unique characteristics presented by each site and brief, recognising factors such as limitations of available space on small and constrained sites, and the impact the proposal will have on its immediate context.
More recently, the practice has undertaken commissions on coastal and alpine areas, and embrace the opportunities presented when designing in exposed and often hostile landscapes.
We welcome the client as active participants in the design process, and are prepared to challenge pre-conceived notions and orthodoxies. More importantly, we strive to reward the client, having taken a considerable ‘leap of faith’ by entrusting the design with us, with a result which far exceeds all expectations in both the built form and service provided by our office.
